A work with a critical view towards online- and printed publishing. I’ve been exploring the boundaries within online publishing. Looking at the process of creating an online publication. Most of the work circles around the question of 'Why people still consider the process of making a printed publication more valuable then an online publication?'.

For instance, the engagement of finding the right… Paper Format Type of Paper Typeface Margins …whereby the content is best reflected through this structure.

When publishing online, people often use ‘ready-made’ platforms, with empty placeholders, ready to be filled. Satisfied with standard settings, without wondering whether the content is reflected through the structure.

My work consists out of a set of online experiments where I explore the boundaries between the visitor’s relation to the content, structure and each other. It's a matter of understanding what interactivity implies, that there's no fixed element, A is changing because of B and B is changing because of A. Interaction resides on the relation to the object. When looking at online publishing as an ongoing process one have to look at it as a process situated in an interactive structure, an ever-changing structure, dependent on people's actions & decisions, similar to a conversation.

A structure, depending on… Sharing Collaboration Discussion Interaction …a dialogic form of publishing; a collaboration between the visitors to the structure.

Collaboration with Jonathan Sachse Mikkelsen & Daniel Rother

Jonathan's work explores the threshold of interactive elements, such as lap-tops, TV-monitors and video games. Those elements are brought together as objects but with the interactive element removed. They invite for interaction but the fact that they are static puts the viewer in a situation where s/he needs to experience the work differently to understand it.

This became a matter of dealing with the situation of looking and analyzing Jonathan's work and seeing how we (Christian Isberg & Daniel Rother) could relate it back to our own interests (of conversational production, bodily experience and user-generated content) through a printed publication.

When we first saw images of Jonathan's work we had no idea what he was working with. One thing is to experience his work on your own but an static image of it removes the experiential information needed to process its content. In conversation, we all agreed that conversations are one of the most interactive things; and that the only representation of Jonathan's work is through a conversation like the one we had were having. We based the content of the publication on conversations about what interactivity implies and how the three of us could relate to it in our own work.
